What is Día de los Muertos?
With its origins in Mexico and Latin America, this day of celebration honors those members of our families and communities whom have passed. All over the United States, anywhere that you find Latino/a communities, you will also find these celebrations of remembrance. It is believed that during this time, the souls of our departed ancestors and relatives, visit us here on earth. To prepare for their visit, family members build altars (altares) where they offer favorite foods, photos, and special keepsakes. The altars also include marigolds, sugar skulls, and other offerings that the departed held dear. The celebrations can include local and regional flair, including poetry, song, and dance. This year’s ArteFest coordinators invite you to join us for Seguin’s Dia De Los Muertos Celebrations where we will honor those members of our families and communities that have passed. Please join us to celebrate the lives of those who came before us!
